They say a picture is worth a thousand words. If you have been to Sugar in last several years then you know what I am talking about looking at these two pictures.
Sugar is full and the water is still roaring over the dam. If you fish anywhere around the spill way on Sugar you can hear the roar of the water as it goes over. Fishing has slowed since the water has risen to full pool but you can still catch some monsters. We has a couple of trips that were not what we wanted with limits of around 25 to 28 pounds but the last trip we made found the fish ready to bite on worms in and around the brush. The lake has had time to stabilize with the high water and the fish are willing to bite when you find them. Look for fish on points up around the dam and also up the rivers.

Danger Will Robinson !!! Falcon lake is full and there are many logs floating down the river and in the main lake proper.
At the time of this writing the level on Falcon lake is 299.67 feet with full pool being 301.20 feet. Falcon is a new lake to say the least. I live on the the lake and I still find myself driving past the entrances of coves I want to look at because I can’t recognize them by site. It’s All Changed! Changed for the good. Yes fishing is tough right now for a lot of people but Just thank about what is in store for this great lake. The spawn is coming and the fisherman will be challenged to get to the spawning fish. If the water level stay up we will have one of the best spawns this lake has ever seen. There is so many places these fish can go to the beds that it is really going to be good.
Fish can still be caught and some good stringers are still being reported, However for the most part reports are down with stringer weights in the mid 20’s for good 5 fish limits but the good news is the fish are still there and we will find them.
Patterns. There are several patterns that one could try currently. My best bite is on a moving bait. I am using the 1/2 oz. Green Shad Spinnerbait and finding good fish. I am not catching fish all over the lake but when I find the right cover on points and creeks then where there is one fish there are more. Yes when I am looking I go for a good time without a bite. That’s because everything and do mean everything looks fishy. It is hard to duplicate a pattern but it can be done. With the lake almost full you can really get confused on what to fish. There are some reports of folks still catching bass out on the points in 15 to 20 foot. I tried that but not every point is holding fish and so I went back to what I like to fish. My comfort zone right now is Spinnerbaits. You can search a lot more water with a moving bait than with a worm or jig. Once you find some fish with moving bait you can go back over the area with the slow baits and pick up more fish.

It has been too long since I updated my Blog. I lost my camera and did not have the pictures to add to the fishing reports. But it is time for an update and I have a new camera.
Falcon lake has risen nearly ten foot since my last report and is predicted to continue to rise. We are hoping the lake fills to capacity but we also know the fishing as we know it will slow down until the lake settles. But, Bad fishing on Falcon Lake is usually better than good fishing on most other lakes. We are having stringers from 25 to 30 lbs. Occasional big fish are still being caught but ifor the most partt the have slowed down. It is just going to take the lake a while to settle and then we will find the new Falcon bass homes. I have been following the bass from deep to shallow. You can still catch deep fish on Football jigs and C-rigs but the areas holding fish are getting more and more water each day. I have started concentrating on shallower patterns. We are catching them early on JoBaby Spinnerbaits in 3/4 and 1/2 ounce. With chartreuse and white and white being the colors until around 10:30 in the morning. Then the bite changes to a flippin bite. Points and creek channels seem to be the pattern all over the lake. Fish the flooded brush and trees in 4 to 12 feet.
Sugar Lake is completely full. I was there two days ago and fishing has changed somewhat. We caught a 9+ lb on Crankbait and several other smaller fish (about 29 to 30 pound stringer on our best five) but the bite was not as good as it had been. Most of the humps we had fished in the past now have 20+ foot of water on them. We did find some fish in flooded timber on worms.
