It’s my time with my favorite partner. We get a chance to fish together for a few days this week and after he wakes up 9:30 am we eat breakfast and go fishing. That’s OK cause he is my grandson and we want to just have a good time. Sidney has fished with me ever since he was big enough to get in and go. He loves to flip so that’s what we did. We are finding good fish in hard woods and willows along the river channel and brushy points. 4 to 10 foot seems to be the best. more to come…..

Sugar Lake August 8th and 9th 2008

Sugar is still a good lake to fish but the morning bite has slowed a bite. We fished hard in the morning catching a few fish but it was not until the afternoon until the fish wanted to play. We wound up having a good day but I was  worried for a while the Sugar Lake was going to fool me. One always wonders how the day will turn out when the fish do not want to take the bait. We were using the usual crank baits and we missed a lot of fish because the were not taking the bait aggressively. The fish we did catch in the morning were caught on the outside of the mouth and or on the side. You could tell that they just didn’t want to eat the bait. They were basically following the bait and then swatting at it thus causing the fowl hook sets. But, by the afternoon they went back to really taking the bait and the last several hours saved the day. This was the pattern for both days we fished.

It’s been busy and I have gotten behind on my updates. We fished Sugar Lake for four days and had good results each day. First days best five was 43+ lbs and Last days best was 33lbs. with each days weighs less than the previous. Fishing is still very good on Points and under water humps in about 7′ to 15′ using DD22 and Hotlips Crankbaits. When the crankbait bite slows you can go to a slow crawling Tilapia or Watermelon Red football jig tipped with a Strike king Rage Craw trailor in Watermelon Red or Pumpkin green. Texas rigged lizards in Watermelon red also are good. More to come.
