Yesterdays trip had fish over 8 pounds for a best 5 fish total of 37 and 1/2 pounds. We caught all the fish on the Jobaby 1oz. Watermelon Red Football Jig.
Most fish were caught on the rock drops in 10 to 20 foot of water. We had a good day with high winds of 15 to 25 and gusts up to 30+. Tip the jigs with a watermelon creature bait of your choice. Forecasts are for more 100+ temperatures and high winds but the fish are still willing to bite. Come on down to Falcon Lake a catch a bunch of big fish.
I had two trips on Falcon this week Thursday and Friday. We had good fish on each day. My patterns are Football Jigs and Crankbaits on Rocky dropoffs and humps and Texas rigged worms on flooded brush. Each trip had over 30 lbs of fish on the best 5. More to come…….

Had another good trip to Sugar Lake on Saturday and Sunday We had worlds of big fish again on DD 22 crank baits in 10 to 12 feet of water. Color was not that important. But you had to have the bait bumping the bottom to get the big ones to commit. Big fish on Saturday was 11 lbs 4 oz. We fished again on Sunday until about noon and had over 35 lbs on our best 5. More to come……..

The Temperature reached 107 today but the Fishing was good with fish on the line up to 8 pounds. We don’t always win. Some time the fish do. We lost several fish over 8 pounds today using Football jigs on the lower end of the lake. Watermelon red was the color of choice and 1 ounce was the preferred size. We got on some six pounders early and had a good morning with probably 30 fish total and managing to boat 30 pounds. The big ones got a way today but there is always tomorrow and another chance at them. The bite was a little off and the hook sets maybe a little too weak. Bass are still on the rocks and ledges in 10 to 30 feet. Caught some fish on Sinko type worms on points and humps in 10 foot of water.
This makes the 5th trip in a row with best 5 weighing over 40 pounds. The fishing has been excellent for the past month and a half on Sugar Lake. Our trip on Saturday boated more than 50 fish on crankbaits. It’s easy fishing right now. My clients have trouble remembering how many 5 and 6 pound fish they catch. Saturday’s trip had 6 fish over 9 pounds with the big one weighin 11 lbs. 4 oz. We had 7 fish over 7 pounds. The lake is down and the fish are bunching up. Come on down to Sugar and let’s catch some monsters. Bring your passport or drivers license and birth certificate. We never have any issues at the border crossing. We go straight to the lake and straight back. It’s a blast in Old Mexico.

It’s been a while since I reported on Sugar. Let me tell you it is out of this world right now. The last four guide trips have produced stringers over 40 pounds on the best five fish each trip. Biggest fish of the four trips was a 12lb. 11oz. lunker caught on a Jobaby Football jig in 14 foot of water. Our last trip found OVER 50 pounds on the best five fish. That’s Right! We had two fish over ten pounds (10 lb 11 oz and 11 lb 15 oz) with two 9’s (9 lb 7oz. & 9 lb even)and an 8 lb. 14 oz for the small one of the five. It was an incredible day. We caught fish all day long. We fished DD 22 crankbaits and Hot Lip’s Express Crankbaits to catch the fish. Prior to that we had stringers over 40 using Texas rigged worms and Lizards along with Football Jigs. We are not only catching big fish but we have a hard time remembering how many fish over 5 pounds we catch each trip. It really doesn’t seem to matter what you use it just makes a difference in the presentation. Slow is better than fast and when you think you are slow. Slow down some more. We are catching these fish on points and humps. Check out my website for Pictures of these big Sugar Lake Monsters. This pattern will hold all through the summer.
