Falcon Bass Are ready for the BASS Elite!

The last few trips have proven to be good for bass fishing. We are catching bass Shallow and Deep. The Pro’s are going to have a field day on Falcon when they fish the Elite Series Tournament this week. Yesterday’s trip was windy in the morning and I started out throwing Spinner baits (1/2 JoBaby Falcon Special in Chartreuse and White) and Norman’s Deep Little N in Blue and Chartreuse)  We fished rocky points and had two nice fish a 7+ and a 6+ the big one came on the Spinnerbait and the other on the deep little N. both fish were shallow. We caught fish most of the day on the rocky points and when the sun came out and clouds disappeared we fished submerged points in 5′ dropping off to 10′ the bass were chasing shad up on the flat and we caught them on 1/4 oz. Texas rigged Big Bite Sinko type bait in Watermelon Candy. We had several good fish on the sinko and had quite a few small fish as well. We had a good day with our best five fish weighing over 30 pounds. More to come…….

Strong Flippin Bite on Falcon

Today’s trip started slow with me trying to fish shallow with spinnerbaits and square bill crankbaits. We did catch two nice fish on the square bill "Lucky Craft model RC 2.5 in Blue and Chartreuse". Caught another fish shallow flippin a worm in 2.5 foot of water. After two spots of not much happening I decided to try some main lake spots and went Flippin in 7 to 14 feet of water. The bite was slow but the fish were better. Biggest fish was over 7 pounds with our best five fish over 30 pounds. Strike King Rag Craws in Pumpkin and Dirty Craw were the best colors. Fish were in flooded brush and hard wood trees. More to come ………Jim

Falcon Bass are still in 2to 7 foot around the mid-lake coves

Last trip to Falcon on March 15th found bass up to 9+ pounds in shallow water off main lake coves. We caught many good fish using Strike King’s  Rage Craws and Zoom Brush hogs. Best colors seem to be Watermelon or green pumpkin. Best 5 fish would have been over 35 pounds with a lot of males in the 2 to 4 pound range. Work the mid-lake area flipping plastics in 2 to 7 foot. I have caught fish out as deep as 25 feet lately but with the strong winds still haunting our trips I have had to continue to probe the shallows. Good spinnerbait  action has been the case but on the the 15th the fish wanted slow plastic. I am seeing several Tilapia on the beds so the bass should still be in the shallows feeding on the Tilapia fry for the next several weeks. With all the hot and windy days lately the summer pattern should begin where bass will be caught on the deeper outside edges of the brush. Look for fish to move out to the 10 to 14 feet depth on the outside tree line of points, coves and creek channels shortly. Humps in the mid-lake as well as major lake points will produce good stringers using Jigs, Carolina rigs, and Crankbaits in shad and Chartreuse colors in the DD22 and Hotlips. Lake Falcon is priming itself for the April BASS "Elete" tournament. Look for record breaking stringers and Many big fish to come to the weighin when the pros hit Zapata the 1st week in April. Fishing is good and when you add the quality of fisherman on that circuit the Tournament should be a big success. More to come… Jim

Falcon Bass Are Shallow and Some deep fish are showing up

Last week I was mainly working to find my clients some quality flipping fish. We did however try a couple of deep humps in about 24 foot of water and caught several 4 to 5 pound fish on Pumpkin Green 1oz. football jigs. The winds have been coming strong each day and changing directions daily with all the recent fronts we have been experiencing  so the deep bite is hard to fish every day. Look for the deep fish to turn on pretty soon. Right now the most fishable bite is in the 2 to 7 foot depth throwing a Silver Gold willow combination of spinnerbaits in White or Chartreuse and White skirt combination. With the shallow water and brush combination it is recommended that you use a quality braided line of your choice. I use 50 pound Pro-Line for my spinnerbaits. You can also catch some good fish on mid sized Square bill crankbaits. Ones that will run in the 3 to 7 foot water. I use a good fluorocarbon line in 20 pound test. A Texas rigged 1/4 ounce weight and a worm (Sinkos, Strike King Rage Craws,or Zoom Brush Hogs in Watermelon Red or Watermelon Candy) seem to work well. I have been concentrating in the mid-lake area up shallow. Look for the large main lake coves or coves off the big water coves. Tigers and goose bay are holding some fish as well as Coyotes and the other mid-lake coves on the Mexico side.

Sugar Lake is back and fishable

Last report on Sugar told the story of too many nets.  The nets have been confiscated and now things are back to normal with only a few nets to worry with. Fishing reports from a Mexican tournament held on Sugar last weekend was won with 22.5 kilos. That’s around 42 pounds of fish for one day. The big fish was a 14 ponder and reports of many 10+ fish. I took a trip over this week and we did not have any large fish. Our best 5 would only weigh a little over 25 pounds. That a 5 pound average and I was apologizing to my clients for not having a better day. Sugar is ready to burst wide open with the spawn

Special note: The Mexican military greeted us when we left Hwy 2 to go to the lake. They were stopping every vehicle and wanted to see your vehicle registration. Once we showed them ours they let us continue.  Remember that Pass Ports or birth certificates and drivers license are required to return to the USA from Mexico. More on Sugar to come….

Falcon Bass started new wave of spawn

Mid lake Falcon seems to be the place to fish these days. Bass are moving up in all the large coves with good catches between fronts. The full moon has started the next wave of bass to move on to the beds. Most trips are finding bass in 2 to 7 feet of water. Last several trips have produced bass with bloody tails. This week we have had bass to 9lbs. with several good fish each day. A four pound average these days is common in almost every boat on the water. That’s good fishing most anywhere you go these days. High winds Tuesday made most folks stay in doors those that ventured out came back in when the 40 mile per hours north winds hit. Wednesday reports from Falcon were very good with fishing biting most of the day. Spinnerbaits and worms seemed to be what most folks were using. I had a trip to Sugar so I missed out on some good fishing on Falcon. You can read my Sugar lake report in the Sugar category. Found some bass out in 25 foot of water today on Football jigs. So the post spawn bass are starting their move back out deep and the summer pattern is begining to start. Caught fish up to 6 pounds throwing green pumpkin football jigs on humps and house foundations.
