Falcon Bass are still shallow and eating spinnerbaits

The past two days have produced fish up to 8 lbs. My last two trips have provided good fish on Falcon Special 1/2 & 3/4 ounce white spinnerbaits and we had over 30 lbs on our best five fish on the first day with the big fish of just over 7lbs. Today we had 18 fish with the big fish weighing right at 8 lbs. and one over 6lbs. with a best five fish of about 27 lbs. The fist day the fish seemed to bite Slow in the morning and then picked up real well in afternoon. Today the morning bite was very good on JoBaby "Gold Baby" Spinnerbaits with the overcast sky the gold blades out performed the silver Gold combination of the Falcon Special, but the bite slowed as the day progressed. Checking with a few other folks that fished the lake today they also had a slow afternoon bite. The fish are still in most major coves all over the lake in 2 to 7 foot of water. Water temps started at 67 degrees this morning and moved up to 71.5 degrees this afternoon. The full moon must have had something to do with the slow afternoon bite as the fish might have fed during the night. Fishing should continue to increase into the full blown spawn.

Sugar Lake has been inundated with Commercial Fishing nets

I had a trip last week to Sugar lake and we had to come back to Fish Falcon Lake because there were so many nets on Sugar that we literally had to fish out in the lake in order to just have a place to fish. In all my years of fishing Mexico I have never seen so many nets.  I thought this would be an end to a great fishery but Today I received a call  informing me that the Mexican army had gone into Sugar lake and confiscated about 3oo nets which they burned. So when I have a chance to get back over I will let check out the fishing and get back to booking trips to Sugar. More to come on this……

Falcon Is ready to explode with spawning bass

Bedding bass are showing up in Mid Lake coves. Last few trips are producing bass in the 4 to 8 lb class in flooded brush in 3 to 7 foot of water. Quality bass have started hitting a 3/4 ounce Jobaby spinnerbait and a Zoom Brush hog in watermelon red. Bigger fish seem to come on the spinnerbaits but the worm will catch small bass as well as wall hangers. Water temps are still getting up to upper 60,s in the afternoons and thats when the bass move up. Feb 20th is the scheduled full moon and that should trigger the major spawn. So load up the reels with fresh line and come on down for some of the best fishing of the year.

Falcon Bass are up trying to Spawn

Falcon bass are moving up daily in an effort to continue their second phase of spawn.  My last three trips have produced 20 to 30 fish per day with big fish up to 9-1/2 pounds. The big fish are showing up in 4 to 6 feet of water on points and flats. Water temps have risen to almost 70 degrees this week with all the sunshine we have had. Fishing will only get better as the fish are due to go into full spawn with the full moon on February 20th. You can find fish in most parts of the lake from up the River to Mid-Lake. Major coves with flooded bushes seem to be the best bets for largemouth bass. Worms in Watermelon Red flipped in the bushes will get bites as well as moving baits such as shallow running crankbaits and white silver gold or double gold spinnerbaits. Fishing is going to keep getting better and better.

Falcon Bass are moving up in an effort to spawn

Lake Falcon bass are moving up shallow in an effort to start the second phase of their spawn. Latter part of February is the shceduled full moon but I don’t think our bass can wait that long. I may be wrong but I am seeing bass up to 8.72 in waters of 6 foot or less. These fish are in tight to the cover and will take a slow rolled spinnerbait or a worm pitched up next to the cover. The fish are being found in groups and once you find them you can go back daily and find the same congregations. Reports of a 12 ponder caught in shallow water around the marker 8 area tells me that the spawn is close at hand. I am always leery of calling for a spawn too soon but this year we found them on beds in early January just before and during the recent FLW tournament. Look for them to spawn around the mid-lake area in early February. Today’s trip had two boats out and we both had heavy fish and stringers in excess of 26 pounds on the best 5 fish per boat. The forecast is for warm weather for the rest of this week and I say the fishing on Falcon is fixing to be ON!!!!
