Jonathon called me and set up a last minute trip after his partner had to cancel on him.We went out and fished spinnerbaits and Square bills early with good success. Jonathon out fished me using the square bill on numbers with several fish in the heavy 4 to light 5 pound range. But, I kept throwing my Green Shad spinnerbait mainly so I would not compete for the fish he was catching and then I wound up catching the big fish of the day. it went 8 and 1\4 on the scale. We then moved to a brushy area and started flippin bushes my 3/4 ounce Jobaby “Camo” colored brush jig. He said he wanted to build confidence in Jig fishing. He had the skills and the equipment to do just that and in no time he was flippin some good ones in the boat. We finished the day flippin and had another 37+ pound bag. I have had three or four of these bags in a row. I usually tell my clients these days that I shoot for a 30 pound best 5 fish bag but if this kind of fishin keeps up I may need to up my average. More to come…..

Took out Ross, Mike, and Jennifer today and we had a big time. Ross had told me he wanted Jen to beat her personal best of 3 pounds and she had a great day. At the end of the day Jenifer had caught 5 fish that went 28+pounds. Her two big ones were 8.25 and 7.81 . Ross had a nice one and Mike had two over 7 pounds. I caught one early on a jig testing the waters while the others were throwing spinnerbaits and crankbaits. We had a good day with our best five going over 37 pounds. The fishing on Falcon is as good as I have seen it in a long time. We all want the make the fish out in Deep water but they are still in less than 20 feet and 2 to 10 is more like it. More to come…..

I took a good buddy fishing today. Ken Parker from Boerne Marine came to Zapata to do some work on some of his clients boats and we found a few hours to go out and do a little flippin. Ken is an excellent fisherman and in just a few hours he and I caught a good limit of fish. Our best 5 was just over 37 pounds. This was a day that I got to set the hook on a few without worry of catching what my clients pay to catch. Anyway it was a great day with a great friend and I really had a good time. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our work that we forget to go and share some good times with buddies. Thanks Ken.

I took out Robert (Bob) Brown of Tour Star Rods and did some testing of his new “Intimidator” line of rods to be offered November –January time frame. I was really impressed with what Bob has come up with in the way of new ideas for his rods. They are perfect for the way I fish Falcon. I am excited about the new line and look forward to getting a few to use. We fished two days trying the different rods with their applications and we caught fish using each of the rods. We used spinnerbaits and square bill crankbaits early to catch some nice ones and then move out to try some deeper cranking and finally went to his new concept (The Beast). It is an adjustable length rod the extends through the blank to allow for lengths of 7’4” to 7’10” without loosing any of the action or feel of the rod. We pulled on some big ones and it performed great. Both days found our best 5 fish at 37 + pounds.

I had the pleasure of taking out Brady and Brian this past weekend. Tropical depression Don made landfall the night before and so with winds predicted in the 30 to 40 mile and hour range I opted to wait until 8 am to start the day. The weather men missed the forecast by a mile. It turned out to more like 15 to 20 and we missed the early bite. We struggled for a limit of fish that went around 28 pounds on the best 5. We caught fish most of the day flippin and casting jigs and creature baits.

The next day I got the boys out really early and our first spot paid off with some good ole Falcon pigs. It was fast and furious for a while and then it played out as usually. Fish were hitting spinnerbaits and crankbaits early on shallow rocky/brushy points. I decided to move to another point and the fish were there as well. Three nice falcon bass hit a medium running crankbait biggest one was 9-1, The day continue to produce good fish and I redeemed myself from the previous day. With our best 5 fish going around 37 pounds. 9-1, 8-4, 7-8, 6-8, 6-? and more 4-5 Lb. fish than we could count.

Had the opportunity to fish with my son this weekend. Time slipped by faster than I wanted but we caught some nice fish and had some much needed one on one time with each other. The fish are still shallow. 7 to 10 foot seems to be my best depth. I am using the watermelon orange brush and Junebug football jigs that I make tipping them with Strike King Rage Craw’s in the Falcon lake color. Our best 5 on Saturday was 34 pounds with a 9-7 kicker that Chris caught in about 4 foot of water. What a battle it was to get it in the boat. Most fish are coming on Points with a mix of rock and brush. flipping was the presentation we used to catch about 35 fish on Saturday. I fished on the North end on Saturday and went South on Sunday. Sunday was a far cry from what we had on Saturday. I wanted to put some big fish in the boat and all my big fish holes dealt me small fish. Go Figure! Chris did loose a another big fish and I had one eat me up in some hardwoods.
