It’s been a while since I reported on Sugar. Let me tell you it is out of this world right now. The last four guide trips have produced stringers over 40 pounds on the best five fish each trip. Biggest fish of the four trips was a 12lb. 11oz. lunker caught on a Jobaby Football jig in 14 foot of water. Our last trip found OVER 50 pounds on the best five fish. That’s Right!  We had two fish over ten pounds (10 lb 11 oz and 11 lb 15 oz) with two 9’s (9 lb 7oz. & 9 lb even)and an 8 lb. 14 oz for the small one of the five. It was an incredible day. We caught fish all day long. We fished DD 22 crankbaits and Hot Lip’s Express Crankbaits to catch the fish. Prior to that we had stringers over 40 using Texas rigged worms and Lizards along with Football Jigs. We are not only catching big fish but we have a hard time remembering how many fish over 5 pounds we catch each trip. It really doesn’t seem to matter what you use it just makes a difference in the presentation. Slow is better than fast and when you think you are slow. Slow down some more. I had a trip last week to Sugar lake and we had to come back to Fish Falcon Lake because there were so many nets on Sugar that we literally had to fish out in the lake in order to just have a place to fish. In all my years of fishing Mexico I have never seen so many nets.  I thought this would be an end to a great fishery but Today I received a call  informing me that the Mexican army had gone into Sugar lake and confiscated about 3oo nets which they burned. So when I have a chance to get back over I will let check out the fishing and get back to booking trips to Sugar. More to come on this……

Fishing in Mexico……. It has to rate up there with your best fishing days. Sugar lake offers just about any type of fishing an angler wants. Imagine a lake full of 10 pounders and on some days your boat is the only one on the lake. Sugar is in the same state as Falcon. Water level rose seven foot and fish that would bite crankbaits on 15 to 20 foot humps are unreachable with crankbaits. Football Jigs, Carolina Rigs, or Texas rigged worms are currently working. Fish are still not as reliable as before the water rise but three consecutive trips gave up fish over ten pounds flipping small plastics in flooded trees. Numbers come and go from trip to trip. A bad day on Sugar is 20 lbs on best 5 fish.
